Pharmaceutical Research

In recent years, a number of HPM graduates have found employment as research coordinators/administrators for ongoing clinical studies conducted by hospitals or university-affiliated research centers. Clinical coordinators are responsible for recruiting and communicating with patients who participate in clinical trials of new medications and/or therapies. Typically, graduate study is not required to obtain an entry level position in the field. Knowledge of experimental design issues, statistics, and commonly used computer applications (Powerpoint, Excel, SPSS, SAS) provides graduates with an important advantage, however, since such skills are routinely used in clinical settings. Courses in research methodology and statistics, along with a strong working knowledge of human physiology and anatomy are also recommended for students interested in this area.
